We have eaten at Salty's quite a few times (always at the bar) and the food and service have always been very good but we won't be back, mainly because of the manager's attitude. I also work in a place where people ask me to recommend restaurants and I had sent quite a few to Salty's. Not any more. I just feel sorry for the people who will lose their jobs when this place closes.
After driving8 hour to michigan and then another 4 hours from Sterling Heights, MI, and finally arriving in Toronto, my friends and I decided to grab a couple drinks.
The manager We spoke to had no response for the service we had received, he pretty much laughed, didn't apologize, and when asked his name he also refused to give his name.
we were ready to leave. But we felt it was necessary to speak to a manager first.
Live entertainment when we were there Sunday afternoon. I love their popcorn for an appetizer. We also shared an order of nachos which was more than enough for 2 people, plus drinks for happy hour and our bill was less than 20 bucks! Can't beat that! Great view, too right on Indian River.
Her response to me was "well I don't know what you're talking about, because you must be terrible at your job." This was during the transaction as I was paying for my service.
My advice; There seems to be many great establishments in this area with great service. Avoid Salty Dog & Bar, you will be treated rudely, and stereotyped based off of where you are from. Do not spend a dollar here it's not worth the hostility you will recieve from the staff and the 30 plus minutes it takes to get you bill straighten out. And as I am all sure no one wants to be stereotype and called an inbred when they are just trying to enjoy a night with friends and only had a few simple questions about your bill. Your best option is to spend a few extra dollars else where with a company who care about customer service.
The Red-headed middle aged waitress (who after asked multiple times, would refuse to give her name) immediately got rude when asked to split the bill. I let her know that I apologized for the confusion, because I also work as a server and that splitting bills can be a pain, but that we needed it to be done.
After asking to speak to a manager (who also refused to give his name). I then asked if he could give me the name of his establishment. His response was that he was not going to give us his name, or the name of the establishment if I was going to leave a bad review.
Just had lunch at Salty's sitting at the bar. We were quite taken aback (and frankly a little offended) when the server asked us to pay up front for our meal. Apparently if you sit at the bar even if you're not drinking alcohol you may forget to pay for your meal. We asked to speak to the manager, who couldn't be bothered to talk to us for the 20-30 minutes it took for us to eat. On our way out, we found her sitting in the completely empty dining room playing with her phone. We asked her about the policy and she didn't have much to say other than "OK!", in a sprightly voice with a big smile on her face, which to me says "I don't care what you're saying and I wish you would go away now." I had thought of calling the owner but from what I'm reading on these reviews I don't think I will get anywhere. I completely understand the policy of holding a credit card or paying cash immediately when you are drinking at a bar- but this was lunch, and we drank water.
I've only been for lunch but the food was delicious. Definitely try the fish tacos! Great view. My only complaint is after enjoying a few cold beers on the water I don't want to wait in line for the bathroom before heading home. Single serve. Oh well... Doesn't take away from the atmosphere!
We hit a couple great bars around the area, and ended up at Salty Dog Bar & Grill. After ordering 2 rounds of drinks, we asked for the bill. The waitress didn't split the bill correctly, so we asked her if she could split it correctly, according to how we ordered.
Please save your money, save your time!! There are many other great joints around this area to check out that I can garentee you will received 100% better customer service at!
I was astonished. After my friends had finally gotten their bills straightened out and paid for, the red-headed middle aged waitress (who refused to give us her name) then looked at me and my friends as we were leaving, and her exact words were "you all are a bunch of inbreds"
